For this project, I experimented with Janthinobacterium lividum: an aerobic, Gram-negative, soil-dwelling bacterium. This bacterium species is unique in its dark-violet color, which makes it an interesting source for biobased dyeing processes.
For this project, I experimented with Janthinobacterium lividum: an aerobic, Gram-negative, soil-dwelling bacterium. This bacterium species is unique in its dark-violet color, which makes it an interesting source for biobased dyeing processes.
J. lividum has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. In nature, J. lividum is found on the skin of red-backed salamanders, where its antifungal properties prevent infections.
