Amaranth (2023)
Biocircular printing paste (1000 × 300 × 50 mm)
Amaranth is a biodegradable tile, designed and produced in collaboration with Omlab. Amaranth was created to promote biodiversity on in urban environments. The organic shape manipulates water flow caused by rainfall, forging a mini-ecosystem that serves as a nurturing ground for diverse plant species.
Omlab specializes in designing with biocircular raw materials. Without the use of minerals, fossil resources, or environmentally unfriendly chemicals, Omlab demonstrates that the built environment can coexist with soil biodiversity. Their material is 98% biocircular (of which 60% tertiary: used, recycled, and then rinsed and purified raw materials) and 2% biobased (primary raw material).
Amaranth represent a harmonious blend of nature and technology. Utilizing additive manufacturing, natural materials are merged with modern technology, pushing the boundaries of sustainable design. Amaranth not only paves the way for greener urban spaces but also exemplifies how contemporary manufacturing techniques can be implemented in environmentally concious design. A video of the manufacturing process can be viewed below.
